SCC Continues the Meetings Africa Tradition in 2010
Wednesday, February 10, 2010
Sandton Convention Centre (SCC), one of the 3 official partners of Meetings Africa, is delivering on its commitment to grow the exhibition and business tourism sector in South Africa. The prestigious annual Meetings Africa event, the continent’s premier business tourism exhibition, will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre for the 6th consecutive year from 24 – 26 February 2010.

SSC’s track record in hosting major international and domestic events is recognised around the world, and has already resulted in a number of key tenders being awarded its way. These wins are testimony to the fact that SCC is one of the premier convention centres on the African continent, offering state-of-the-art technology, superb venues that are incredibly versatile and a world-class team.

Meetings Africa continues to grow annually.  In 2009 it experienced an increase of 15% in exhibitors, attracted 1921 visitors and 218 businesses offered their wares to the global travel trade. According to South Africa Tourism, the official host, Meetings Africa 2010 will attract approximately 3000 visitors from over 34 countries, including local corporate buyers, international hosted buyers and media representatives.  Currently over 100 exhibitors have confirmed their places for 2010 – 10% of these are newcomers to the show.

Says Mati Nyazema, Executive Director of the Sandton Convention Centre, ”With the growth of the business tourism industry, so the opportunity for South Africa to host many more international events increases.  Our country is the business portal of Africa, and Sandton Convention Centre will play its role in showcasing our country and the value our continent has to offer to the world.  It remains our vision to provide the people of Johannesburg and the Gauteng province with a world class conference centre where they can welcome and entertain guests of the highest caliber.”

“As the host venue for this prestigious showcase of the business tourism industry across the African continent, it is encouraging to see this annual event grow in stature year on year.  We look forward to hosting a bigger and better Meetings Africa event together with SA Tourism in 2010,” concluded Mati.
